Sihem Souid organized a press trip to Madagascar with several French journalists from 23 to 28 May. A short stay to take in an island nation torn between extreme poverty, exceptional resources and the ambitions of the powerful.
The trip allowed the journalists in Antananarivo to cover current issues: tourism development, vanilla, education and health, the Scattered Islands, Madagascar–France relations, green bonds, the fight against poverty, the upcoming presidential election, drinking water and sanitation, land reform and spatial planning.
Journalists spoke with entrepreneurs, ministers and vanilla producers, and met Father Pedro, known for his fight against poverty in Madagascar, where he founded the AKAMASOA association in 1989. The organization helps people leave undignified living conditions by providing housing, work and education.
The trip enabled L’Express to interview President Rajoelina exclusively. He addressed, without filter, every major issue facing a country in the midst of far-reaching change.
